Letter from our Cubmaster

Dear Potential Cub Scout Participants:

There are a number of events that may have led you to us… perhaps a young man in your life heard about Cub Scouts and thinks it sounds like lots of fun, or a friend is a Scout and really wants him to join too, or maybe you were a Scout and have fond memories of your experiences.  Whatever the impetus, I welcome you to consider Cub Scout Pack 190 for your family and I would like to share what I’ve experienced first-hand with this organization as a kid and now as a parent volunteer.

I first came into Cub Scouting because it is an American tradition and sounded like fun… and my parents signed me up. Back in the 1970s you could hardly find a kid who was not a Scout at one point. And now many, many years later, Scouting is still going strong, truly withstanding an impressive test of time.

What began more than 100 years ago has served 110 million boys over the years and has close to two million boys participating today. Its success and popularity comes from offering a program that simply stands apart from so many other activities, options and influences in children’s’ lives.

When he founded Scouting, British Army Officer Robert Baden-Powell called it “the great game with a purpose.”  Boys like scouting because it’s fun and feeds their interests in games, activities and friendships. And amidst all of the fun is a means to help build character and develop these boys into the men we all dream for them to be.

Scouting gives boys opportunities to feel accepted, practice sportsmanship and cooperation, gain confidence by developing skills and talents, and realize they can make a difference with their actions. Scouting provides family time where everyone can join in regardless of age – parents, siblings, guardians, grandparents, mentors, all are welcome at our events.

It’s inspiring to witness the sense of belonging amongst the scouts. When they put on the Scout uniform and participate in the meetings and activities they become part of a small unit of boys referred to as their Den. A number of Dens serving boys typically from ages 6 to 11 belongs to a larger group called the Pack. All Packs belong to a district and are ultimately supported the national organization that carries a proud tradition, commitment and legacy crossing generations and boundaries.

Pack 190, as with all packs, is made up of a terrific family of people, and we will welcome you heartily. Please see attached application and complete it when you decide to come aboard.
